the e-scape
there is just something about a personal website. it is everything that social media is not and that's why i love it. i've felt the itch to own a site since i was a child making warrior cat rps on freewebs.com. but it took me a long time of growing and changing and thinking and experiencing to finally end up with a real reason to have one. for the longest time it felt like there wasn't much of a point to having a site because i didn't think i had much to offer. felt like i had no "reason".
now at my big age of twenty six (as of creating this website), i have come to realize that my existence is reason enough. not to sound morbid or anything but i do sincerely love the idea of websites as digital tombstones. a bubble in time that was entirely mine, a place people can go after i die to see proof that i WAS, that i was here and that i did things and loved things while i was at it. i think that the internet is so vast and you can think of it a lot like the physical world: there are big overpopulated cities (social media): overwhelming, exhausting, dangerous, but enticing, always full of interesting and exciting things. then there's the open country, rural communities, villages, homesteads. places where people have made their mark on the land in their own way, whatever way it is that serves them best. maybe we don't hear all the exciting gossip out here, but we can hear ourselves think. we have space to breathe and express and be alive. there is enough space for everyone. what does your space look like?
this website is mine. it is my e-scape. my personal landscape within the internet, and my escape from the mind-numbing horrors of big corporations and social media. you are welcome here; please stay as long as you want. soak up the fresh air and see what i have built and grown. it's for everyone to share.
if you would like to learn more about creating your own space on the internet, i encourage you to explore my collection of articles and resources on the topic. (COMING SOON)
manifesto
- never stop growing and changing. the website (and this manifesto) is a living thing, a digitization of a human soul, and therefore entirely imperfect and inherently evolving.
- learning is not shameful and is a process that should be shared like good food.
- it is vital to try new things.
- the website is as diverse as the mind. the only guiding theme is that it all came from me.
- every person can, and must, make a difference. modern humans have an obligation to fight back against the things that try to destroy us. the fight does not have to be big and bloody. a quiet revolution is just as strong.
- sharing (love, information, food, resources) is the most vital human act that any of us can take.
- the internet is a good and friendly place. love your e-scape neighbors. raise their voices. reach out to them. community cannot be built by everyone hiding inside.
- seek out small. small games, small websites, small creators. avoid big algorithm. make your own choices. our attention is our biggest weapon.
- advertisement is the first cardinal sin. the web is not about money.
stats
- Despite having had an account for years and multiple prior websites, the official date of birth of thatsrocky (the website) is August 30th, 2025.
- This website is fiercely defended by a hoard of really pretty magical girls. They will never try to sell you anything.
- This website is 100% AI-FREE and will be until the internet ceases entirely to exist.
- Coded entirely by my grubby little hands in mozilla firefox on linux pop!_os with a screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 (16:9)
- Always under construction (see manifesto)
